Come watch the Orionids Meteor Shower and enjoy stargazing at Neale Woods located at 14323 Edith Marie Ave. in Omaha. Our event will begin with a brief evening hike on dirt-packed trails through the prairie and forest. Then as night falls, we will watch for shooting stars together while learning about meteor showers and general astronomy from our seasoned volunteer, Bob Fuchs. The Omaha Astronomical Society will have telescopes available as well for your stargazing enjoyment.

This event will run from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather, wear good walking shoes, and bring a water bottle. Please bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on while stargazing and be ready to hike a short distance on easy to moderate terrain with your chair to our meteor shower viewing area.

Are you worn out after a busy work week? Do you need a "pick me up" to kickstart your weekend? Grab your friends, coworkers, or significant other and come wind down during our Sunset Hike!

This hike will explore the gravel and dirt trails near the Nature Center, then head out to the third loop of the Boardwalk to watch the sunset over the Missouri River.

Looking for a way to celebrate the fall with your family? Join us at the Forest for our Family Campfire Festival! Explore a trail off the beaten path, make a leaf-themed craft, play corn hole, or join us at a campfire sing-along.

This program is located at Camp Wa-Kon-Da and will feature guided hikes, a seasonal craft, lawn games, hot dogs & s'mores, and more festivities to enjoy the fall weather!

Wear shoes you're comfortable hiking in (or comfortable sitting around a fire in!), bring an extra layer for those chilly fall evenings, and bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket. We'll have optional guided hikes that will run for 40 minutes over easy to moderate terrain. S'mores, a hot dog and fixings, chips, hot chocolate, and water will be provided.

Are you an adventurous night owl looking to explore new trails? Join us in this unique opportunity to see the Forest at night! Don’t miss your chance to learn about the nocturnal creatures who call the Forest home while exploring new trails.

This guided hike is geared toward intermediate to experienced hikers (ages 16+) and will traverse at least two miles of moderate to difficult terrain, so please come prepared with appropriate clothing and gear. Our educators recommend the following, as applicable: long pants, tall socks, water bottle, bug spray, winter coat, scarf, and/or gloves. Please check the weather as you are preparing for this event – safety of our guests is our top priority.

Join our Naturalist Educator for a guided hike through the Forest located at 1111 Bellevue Blvd. North. Come along as we explore the various flora and fauna of the location.

The guided hike will be from 2:00-4:00 PM, traversing easy to moderate terrain; please dress accordingly.
