Map and Compass Field Session

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday October 5

12:00 PM  –  2:30 PM

Join presenter Laura Friesell for a hands-on experience learning the fundamentals of using a compass to navigate a topographic map in the great outdoors!
Topics will include how how to identify parts of a compass, how to take a compass bearing, adjust for declination, and how to apply the bearings to a topographic map of Fontenelle Forest. We will hike for roughly 2 hours on hilly terrain, stopping intermittently to take bearings and apply them to our map to find where we are located.  Bring a day pack with water and a snack as needed. Bug spray, a hat, and good hiking shoes recommended. A clipboard and pen/pencil will come in handy as well.
The hike will be held rain or shine.

**Participants please note that you must provide your own compass with a base plate - it will not be provided in this class. Also, this course is being offered in conjunction with a Map and Compass Fundamentals offered Tuesday, October 1st. These classes are separate and must be registered for individually.**
